... wasn't much magnetism about her Carmen. German tenor Jonas Kaufmann by contrast is a compelling Don Jose. From being a conscientious corporal throwing a guilty glance at the provocative cigarette girl from behind a newspaper he develops into a wild haired outlaw torn between his moral duty and his desire for Carmen.
