| What a night. What a contentious show. Despite
the pearly beauty of [Alice Coote]'s tone, and the intense ardour of
[Jonas Kaufmann], I'm not convinced myself that the arrangement worked
in every respect. The orchestration resulted in textures that were as
splintery as they were translucent. The centre of gravity of the piece
shifted, and every aspect of focus, balance, and perspective was also
