Wagner: Tenor Arias
German tenor Jonas Kaufmann demonstrates anew his increasing stature as the reigning Heldentenor of our time. His dark voice, with its baritonal tinge, adds intense expressivity to selections from five Wagner music dramas, as well as an affecting account of the "Wesendonck Lieder" in the orchestration by Felix Mottl. Kaufmann is lucky to team with seasoned Wagnerians, conductor Donald Runnicles and the chorus and orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Grade: A
